Truth or Fable

Opus 40 Sculpture Park and Museum
Saugerties, New York

“This Land is Your Land, This Land is My Land” I am immediately humming this Woody Guthrie folk song as I walk through Opus 40, a nonprofit sculpture park and museum deep in the Hudson Valley in Saugerties, NY. On this 60 acre property, artist Harvey Fite created a living legacy, sculpting a blend of the local quarry and ancient Mayan and Aztec stonework.

“Bring me all of your dreams,
You dreamers,
Bring me all of your
Heart melodies
That I may wrap them
In a blue cloud-cloth
Away from the too-rough fingers
Of the world.”
Langston Hughes

Reflections

Rise up, I came before you
this is my light upon the sand that shines
Can you see your reflection in my story?
Centuries old, born yesterday
Water flows with no movement
Grass sways with the music of your breath
Is there peace here?
Pain screams silently
The wind is made of needles
the sun shines down like broken glass
Let me walk beside you, let your cape float out to sea
Can you see me now?

“I plant three seeds
As a spell. One
For what will grow
Like air around us,
One for what will
Nourish and feed,
One for what will
Cling and remind me—
We are the weeds.”
Ada Limón

“There is a yellow one that won't
Accept the black one
That won't accept the red one
That won't accept the white one
Different strokes for different folks”
Sly Stone

Benmarl Winery
Marlboro, New York

With sweeping vistas of the Hudson River Valley, Benmarl Winery holds New York’s winery license Number One. For a New Yorker that may be enough to boast about, but while there you’ll want to toast this 37 acre estate which is also the oldest vineyard in America.

“If you love a flower which happens to be on a star,
