The Pledge
Innisfree Garden
Millbrook, New York
I am safe here
Did you leave your love for me under the willow tree?
I feel it on my skin in the breeze
I can no longer see you, still I reach for you
I cannot touch the contour of your hand, so I sit and wait,
then softly I sense you all around me.
Should I scream with pain and anger
Will the ground shake and the water rise
We made a promise on this hallowed ground,
humbled by the presence of our eyes filled with love
Now I walk the perimeter of the pond each morning,
To let my heart be at peace
You are everywhere
Two chairs, one love
This is our Pledge

“A smart man turned to a wise one and asked, ‘If enlightenment is the goal of life but life is never-ending, what then follows enlightenment?’ The wise man replied, “Tomorrow.”

You look at me from my window, be at peace you say
‘You don’t know what came before you,
how can you demand this of me?’
It is the wind that speaks,
the ocean that roars,
my mind that is beckoning me
Be at peace you say
It is time

The quiet was palpable, it was golden hour
The wind blew off the gulf,
no stress or fear disturbed the key
They walked hand in hand,
dazzling and resplendent
Just one hammock.
A glance, a moment of splendor
